Short answer
Hermès does not use "MM" as a size name for the Jypsiere. The model comes in 28, 31, 34 and 37 cm. The number is the width of the bag across the base. A listing for a "fake Hermès Jypsiere MM" uses a replica-market label, so two sellers can ship two different bags under the same name. Judge the bag by measured size, leather, hardware and stitching. Skip the tag.
Where the "MM" label comes from
MM is a French fit label used by other handbag houses for a medium size. Replica factories and resellers borrow it because it sounds familiar to buyers. Hermès does not print it on a Jypsiere, and no date stamp or blind stamp carries it. Ask the seller for a photo with a tape measure on the bag: length across the base, height at the center, depth at the gusset, and strap drop. Compare those numbers with a 31 cm or 34 cm bag. A bag sold as "MM" that measures 33 cm sits between two official sizes.
Leather and hardware
Jypsiere bags come in Clemence, Togo, Swift and Evercolor leather. Clemence has a soft grain and a matte surface. Togo shows a pebbled grain with a dry touch. Swift is smooth and shows scratches. Check the grain across the flap and the body: one hide should run through both parts, with no change in scale or sheen at the seam. Hardware on most Jypsiere bags is palladium plated. Weight is the test. A plated brass clasp has heft and a cool surface. Thin zinc alloy feels light and shows a sharp edge at the base of the plate.
Stitching and edges
Hermès uses a saddle stitch, two needles and one waxed thread. Each stitch slants in one direction and the pitch stays even, about 2.5 to 3 mm on the flap edge. Machine lock stitch on a replica shows a flat stitch line with a thread that loops at the ends. Edge paint on a real bag is thin and follows the leather cut. Paint that runs onto the face, or a raised bead with a ripple, points to a replica.
Stamps and interior
Each Jypsiere carries a blind stamp inside, plus a craftsman mark. The stamp sits on a flat section, pressed into the leather with no ink. Replica stamps sit deep, sit off-center, or use foil. The interior has a zip pocket and slip pockets. Check the zip pull for a smooth finish and a straight tooth line, and check that the pocket leather matches the body.
Law and price in the US
Selling a counterfeit bag as genuine violates federal law under 18 U.S.C. § 2320 and carries criminal penalties. US Customs and Border Protection seizes shipments of goods that infringe a recorded trademark. A bag sold as a replica is still an infringing product, and the low price reflects that status, not a bargain. Retail for a real Jypsiere runs several thousand dollars. A quote near a few hundred dollars is a replica.
Questions to ask a supplier
- What is the measured width, height and depth in centimeters?
- Which leather is used, and can you send a close photo of the grain at the flap seam?
- Is the hardware palladium plated brass or zinc alloy?
- Can you show the blind stamp and the interior zip pocket?
- What is the return policy if the measured size is wrong?
