Short answer
Louis Vuitton does not sell loose hardware. Replacement parts for a replica or counterfeit bag come from third-party suppliers in China, Italy, and the US. Match four numbers before you order: ring inner width, wire diameter, finish color, and plating thickness. A 0.2 mm error on a D-ring shows as a gap at the strap.
Parts and sizes
- D-rings: inner width 12 mm, 15 mm, 19 mm, 25 mm. Wire 2 mm to 4 mm.
- Swivel snap hooks: 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm opening. Spring gate or trigger gate.
- Rectangular rings and O-rings: same inner widths as D-rings.
- Zipper sliders: YKK #3, #5, #8, #10. The number refers to the closed chain width, not the bag.
- Magnetic snaps: 14 mm, 18 mm, 20 mm. Two parts plus a washer.
- Rivets: 6 mm to 10 mm cap, 8 mm to 12 mm post.
- Feet and studs: 10 mm to 16 mm base.
- Chain: 6 mm to 12 mm link width, 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm wire.
- Locks: S-lock, push lock, twist lock. Mounting hole spacing is the fit point.
Materials and finishes
Two materials cover most parts: die-cast zinc alloy and brass. Brass weighs more and holds plating longer. Zinc is cheaper and cracks at thin sections. Gold tone on low-cost hardware runs 0.05 to 0.1 micron and wears to the base metal in months. Mid grade parts run 0.3 to 0.5 micron. Gold over brass at 1 micron or more holds up. ASTM B488 covers electrodeposited gold coatings and lists thickness codes. Pale gold, yellow gold, brass, palladium, ruthenium, and black are the common colors. Gold tone varies by supplier. Buy all parts for one bag from one supplier in one order.
Measure first
- Use a digital caliper. Read to 0.01 mm.
- Measure the inner opening of the old ring, not the outer edge.
- Measure wire diameter at the straight section, not the bend.
- Write the numbers on tape and keep the tape with the bag.
- Photograph the part next to a ruler with the caliper in frame.
A caliper costs $15 to $30. It saves a second order.

Tools for removal and install
- Split ring pliers, 2 flat nose pliers, and a small awl.
- Seam ripper for stitched strap ends.
- Rivet setter, anvil, and 8 oz mallet, or a hand press for 100+ rivets.
- Zipper slider pliers or two needle nose pliers for the top stop.
- Masking tape to hold the zipper tape while the slider goes on.
Cut the old top stop, fit the slider, then sew or crimp a new stop. Do not pry a slider open to force it onto a chain. The gate bends and the slider drops off.

Sourcing and legal note
Suppliers list hardware by size and finish, in packs of 10 to 100. Minimum orders on custom finishes start at 100 to 500 pieces. Lead time runs 7 to 25 days. Note the law: selling goods with a counterfeit mark is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. 2320, and CBP can seize the goods. Repair of an item you own is a separate question from resale.
Limits
Hardware will not fix leather tears, failed glue, or a wrong stitch count. Some locks use a nonstandard hole spacing. No supplier stocks every pattern. Measurement and one spare part solve most of it.
