Short answer
Alize is not a Hermes handbag pattern. Hermes does not list a bag, a leather, or a stitch called Alize. The word shows up in two places: yarn listings, and reseller titles for replica bags. Alize is also the name of a Turkish hand-knitting yarn brand, which has no link to Hermes.
What Hermes names actually exist
Hermes leather goods carry model names. The main ones:
- Birkin
- Kelly
- Constance
- Evelyne
- Picotin Lock
- Bolide
- Herbag
- Lindy
- Roulis
- Halzan
Leather names are separate: Togo, Epsom, Clemence, Swift, Barenia, Box calf, Chevre Mysore, Evercolor. Sellers mix model names and leather names in listing titles. Alize fits neither list.
The stitch pattern on a Hermes bag
One thread, two needles, saddle stitch. Each stitch is locked by hand at the hole. Trade coverage cites 8 to 10 stitches per inch on a Birkin. The thread is waxed linen. A machine-made bag shows a single-needle lockstitch instead. Check the back of an inside seam: a hand saddle stitch leaves two thread passes in each hole with a slight slant.
Hardware and stamps
Hardware is brass with gold or palladium plating. The interior stamp reads HERMES PARIS, followed by a craftsperson code and a year letter. Replica listings often skip the code or print it in the wrong font.
How to read a listing that says Alize pattern
- Ask which model. Birkin, Kelly, Constance, and the rest have fixed shapes.
- Ask for stitches per inch and thread type.
- Ask for a photo of the interior stamp and the code.
- Ask for the hardware metal and the plating.
- Ask for the leather name and the tannery grade.
If a seller cannot name the model, the word Alize carries no information. Treat it as filler text, not a spec.
Legal note
Hermes holds registered marks on its name and on some bag shapes in several countries. In the US, selling goods with a counterfeit mark falls under 15 U.S.C. 1114 and 1125. Customs can hold or seize a shipment. Wholesale buyers should know what a supplier ships and from where.
