Start with the stamp and the stitch
A genuine Hermes special order Birkin carries a horseshoe stamp next to the blind stamp. The horseshoe means the client chose the leather, the two colors, the hardware, and the thread. Replica sellers copy that mark. Ask the supplier for a close photo of the stamp area and of the interior stitch line. Contrast stitching is the hardest part to copy. Look at the back side of the stitch row. Machine stitching loops. Hand saddle stitching crosses.
Confirm specs in writing
Ask for a written spec sheet before you pay. A supplier who makes the bags will send one. A reseller with stock photos will not.
Hermes Replica Birkin Special Order Uniqueness Guide
Parameters that matter
- Size: 25 cm, 30 cm, 35 cm, or 40 cm. Measure the base, not the flap.
- Leather: Togo, Epsom, Clemence, Swift, Barenia, or Chevre. Ask for the tannery name and the thickness in millimeters.
- Hardware: gold tone, palladium, brushed, or permabrass. Ask for plating thickness in microns. Under 0.5 microns wears through in months.
- Stitching: thread color, stitch count per inch, and how the stitch line is made, by hand or by machine.
- Stamp: horseshoe mark, blind stamp, year letter, and initials. Check the font. Hermes uses a specific serif. Copy stamps often show wrong letter spacing.
- Interior: leather lining, one zip pocket, two slip pockets. Zip pull shape changes by year.
- Weight: a 30 cm Togo Birkin with hardware runs about 900 g to 1,100 g. A 600 g bag points to thin leather or a hollow core.
- Exotic skins: crocodile and alligator need CITES permits to cross borders. Ask who holds the permit.
Pitfalls
- Sellers who show one bag and ship another. Ask for a dated photo of the exact unit with a handwritten tag.
- "1:1" with no leather name. If the listing says PU or microfiber, it is not leather.
- Payment with no receipt. Use a method that has a dispute process.
- Returns refused after the bag ships. Get the return window in writing before payment.
- Special order claims on stock bags. A two-tone custom bag takes weeks to build. A seller with 40 "special order" units on the shelf is not building them to order.
- Plated hardware listed as solid gold. Hermes does not put solid gold hardware on standard Birkins.
- Stamp position drift. The horseshoe sits next to the blind stamp on the interior back wall. Stamps placed on the flap or the strap are wrong.
Price and quantity
Wholesale price tracks leather, hardware, and labor. Ask for the unit price at 1, 5, and 20 pieces. Ask what changes at each tier. If the price does not move, the seller is not the maker.
