Fake Hermès Picotin: Answer First
A fake Hermès Picotin is a counterfeit copy of a bag Hermès has made since 2002. Real Picotin Lock bags sell at Hermès boutiques for about $3,000 to $3,500 for the 18 cm size, before tax. Counterfeit copies sell for $40 to $300 on street corners, at flea markets, and on marketplace sites. Hermès does not sell through third-party retailers and does not license the Picotin to other makers. Any bag sold as a "1:1 replica" or "mirror quality" Picotin is counterfeit. What the Real Picotin Is
- Introduced in 2002. Designed and made in France by Hermès.
- Name from picotin, a French measure of oats for horses.

- Taurillon Clemence leather in most seasons. Other leathers appear in some colors.
- Two rolled top handles and one leather tab that threads through a padlock-shaped clasp.
- No logo on the outside body.

Check Points
- Leather. Clemence has a pebbled grain, a matte surface, and a soft hand. The bag slumps when set down. Counterfeit copies often use stiff coated split leather or PU.
- Stitching. Hermès sews with a saddle stitch, two needles, one thread. The line slants and the spacing is even. Machine lockstitch runs flat and tight.
- Heat stamp. The lettering carries the grave accent on È. Fakes drop the accent or space the letters wrong.
- Hardware. Palladium or gold plate. Look for weight, a clean engraving, and no pits. Fakes run light and sharp at the edges.
- Channel and price. No boutique discounts a Picotin. No factory sells them by the pallet.
Legal Status in the US
US Customs and Border Protection treats goods with a counterfeit trademark as prohibited and subject to seizure and destruction. A personal-use claim does not cover a counterfeit mark.
