Short answer
Limited-edition Saint Laurent bags carry the same internal markers as main-line bags. Look for a stamped leather date code inside the interior seam, engraved Cassandre hardware, and even stitching. Checks that apply to limited bags
- Date code: a leather tab sewn into the interior seam. It holds a number string and a country stamp, Made in Italy or Made in France.
- Hardware: metal with weight. Engraving is sharp, centered, and clean at the edges. Plating does not flake.
- Stitching: even length, straight lines, matched thread color. Count the stitches in a 1 inch span. Most authentic seams hold 8 to 10.
- Leather: smooth grain, no plastic sheen, no chemical smell.
- Interior label: Saint Laurent Paris print, clear and level.
- Dust bag and box: correct logo, correct font, no misspellings.
Red flags
Saint Laurent does not put hologram stickers on bags. A sticker inside the bag points to a counterfeit. Other signals: serial numbers that repeat across listings, a serial number printed on paper rather than stamped in leather, hardware that feels light, and seams that curve at the corners. Limited models also get faked in colors the brand never made. Compare the seasonal color list against the year on the date code.
Price and provenance
Limited Saint Laurent bags sell new between $2,000 and $6,000. Exotic leather runs go higher. Resale prices hold near retail for rare colors. Offers far below that range, or a seller who refuses a third-party authentication, are a stop sign. Auction houses require documented provenance before they list a limited bag.
